Women empowerment more than just sex, clothes: Sonakshi

Bollywood (Apr 1): Actress Sonakshi Sinha thinks Deepika Padukone's online video "My Choice" comes with good intentions but feels more needs to be done on women empowerment. Deepika's two-minute-34-second video has gone viral online but opinions are divided with some calling it "truly empowering" while others terming it hypocritical and elitist.

Sonakshi, who is yet to watch the clip, believes that women living in the deep ends of society need to be empowered. "I haven't watched the video but I know about the thought behind it that is women empowerment... it comes from a good space but honestly I believe empowerment should be given to those women who need it, far away from where we are right now, reports pti.

"I also feel that it is not always about who you want to have sex with and the kind of clothes you wear. It is about employment, strength and stuff like that. So it is a good initiative but I think it needs to reach out to people who actually need it, the deep ends of society," Sonakshi, 27, said.

The clip, featuring Deepika and 98 other women, is directed by Homi Adjania and produced by Dinesh Vijan. Kersi Khambatta, who wrote Finding Fanny's dialogue, has written the lines. The video talks about the stereotyping that women from different walks of life face in their everyday life but the lines "It is my choice to marry or not to marry... It is my choice to have sex before marriage or have sex outside the marriage" have drawn criticism. (BollywoodChain.Com)
